Introducing EpiGuard, Passenger Lift Solutions, and More

At Rowland Emergency, we are committed to equipping your agency with the best tools available in emergency medical services. That commitment drives us to continuously evaluate new technologies, form strategic partnerships, and bring solutions to our customers that make a real difference in the field. Today, we are pleased to share several important additions to our product lineup.

EpiGuard and the EpiShuttle® Medical Isolation Transport System

Rowland Emergency is proud to announce our official partnership with EpiGuard, a global leader in medical isolation and transportation systems. Through this partnership, we are now an authorized distributor of the EpiShuttle Medical Isolation Transport System, bringing this world-class technology directly to the EMS, air medical, and critical care providers we serve. The EpiShuttle is currently used by Ornge, Alberta EHS, BC EHS, Keewatin Air, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

What Is the EpiShuttle?

The EpiShuttle is an award-winning, clinically validated isolation transport system engineered to safely move patients with highly infectious diseases or those who require protective isolation. Developed through close collaboration with clinicians, paramedics, and patients, it is purpose-built for real-world operational demands.

The EpiShuttle is built around a core principle: full patient containment without compromising the ability to provide advanced medical care during transport.

Key Features

Continuous care access: Patients can be continuously monitored and receive advanced medical interventions while remaining fully within the isolation environment.

Multi-platform compatibility: The EpiShuttle supports deployment across ground ambulances, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft.

Reusable, fleet-ready design: A robust, reusable construction allows your agency to standardize on a single isolation solution across your entire fleet.

Why Rowland Emergency and EpiGuard?

Through our partnership with EpiGuard, we provide more than just the equipment. We work alongside your agency to ensure proper deployment, training, and ongoing support so your team can use the EpiShuttle with confidence from day one. This is not a product you simply receive and figure out. It is a system we help you integrate.

If you would like to learn more, arrange a demonstration, or discuss how the EpiShuttle could fit within your agency's operations, please reach out to your Rowland Emergency representative or contact us directly.

Also Now Available Through Rowland Emergency

Alongside EpiGuard, we are pleased to introduce one additional new product now available to our customers, as well as updates from two existing partners.

Passenger Lift Solutions (PLS): Vehicle Access Lifts for Emergency and Patient Transfer Vehicles

Rowland Emergency is now an authorized distributor of Passenger Lift Solutions (PLS), a UK-based manufacturer with over 30 years of experience designing and engineering vehicle access lifts. We can sell or install PLS lift systems in-house at our Toronto facility, ensuring professional integration tailored to your specific vehicle platform.

We currently offer two PLS lift systems:

Access Underfloor Cassette Lift

This rear-entry underfloor lift is ideal for fleets that need to preserve maximum interior cabin space. Because it mounts entirely beneath the vehicle floor, the cabin remains completely clear for seating, stretchers, or mobility aids. Its sealed, weather-resistant cassette housing protects the system from moisture, road salt, and debris, making it well-suited to Canadian conditions. The electrohydraulic mechanism provides stable, quiet lift movement, and a simple two-button control system makes it intuitive for any operator. Compatible with a wide range of light commercial vehicles, it is suitable for community paramedicine, non-emergency patient transfer, and accessible transport fleets.

EA4 Inboard Patient Lift

For agencies requiring a lift system that can be mounted at either the rear or side door, the EA4 Inboard Lift offers a modular, lightweight, and highly configurable solution. Available in three platform styles (solid, vertical split, and horizontal fold), it supports customization including handrail upgrades and wireless controls. Manufactured using high-tensile steel and CAD-stress-tested for durability, the EA4 is built for high-cycle use across a range of vehicle types.

Both systems can be retrofitted to existing vehicles or integrated into new builds, and are supported by a comprehensive warranty and after-sales program. If your agency is undergoing a vehicle conversion or building out a new fleet, we encourage you to reach out and discuss which lift system best fits your needs.

XDcuff Advanced Stretcher-Integrated Limb Restraints

XDcuff is a patented limb restraint system developed by a paramedic after his partner was injured during an attempt to manually restrain an uncooperative patient. Traditional restraint methods require searching for equipment, forming knots, and managing loops under pressure, all of which delay care and increase the risk of injury to crews and patients alike. XDcuff eliminates those steps entirely.

The system works by pre-connecting anchor clips directly to the stretcher frame, so restraints are immediately accessible the moment they are needed. There are no knots, no loops, and no confusion about where to anchor. XDcuff is custom designed for seamless compatibility with both Stryker and Ferno stretchers, and its adjustable cuffs accommodate a wide range of patients comfortably and securely.

XDcuff is available in both reusable and disposable options. The reusable restraints and clips are covered under a two-year manufacturer's warranty. Agencies including some of Canada's largest EMS services have adopted the system across their fleets, with consistent feedback pointing to faster restraint times, reduced injuries, and improved confidence among crews managing patients in crisis.

Badger Skin Reusable Patient Slider System

Badger Skin is a Canadian-made, reusable patient slider designed to reduce the physical strain on EMS crews during patient transfers from stretcher to hospital bed. Back and shoulder injuries sustained during patient handling remain one of the leading causes of lost time in EMS, and Badger Skin was built specifically to address that risk.

Unlike disposable plastic sliders, which are reactive tools deployed only after the patient is already on the stretcher, Badger Skin uses a unique harness system to keep the slider permanently attached to the stretcher via velcro and ready for every call.

Two Models Available

M2 Model

Features the lowest friction coefficient of any patient slider currently available, along with a rubberized top coat that prevents the patient from shifting during transport.

M1 Model (Slider Sheet)

Stores neatly in a stretcher-mounted canister for services that prefer a more on-demand deployment approach.

Badger Skin is compatible with both Stryker and Ferno stretchers, easy to wipe clean for immediate reuse, and machine washable when heavily soiled. One Badger Skin replaces an estimated $1,040 worth of disposable sliders annually per unit, while significantly reducing medical waste across your fleet. It is manufactured at a Class 1 Medical Device Certified Facility and backed by a one-year warranty.
